Staff Spotlight: Ruben!

July 4, 2024

July’s spotlight is for one of our Account Mangers, Ruben. Self professed Gleek, problem solver and puzzle master. We asked him to answer the below questions as honestly as he could and this is what he had to say:

When people come to you for help, what do they usually need help with?

Usually remembering something that happened long ago and is not really relevant – courtesy of my near eidetic memory that remembers almost everything that happened within the 4 walls of our office, even if I wasn’t there for it. Otherwise, it would be anything to do with numbers as I’m a massive self-proclaimed math nerd.

How do you feel about emojis and abbreviated words (like “u” instead of “you”) in texts and emails?

“The English language lacks the requisite words to express just how much I dislike u.” I love that I can use a quote from my favourite TV show (Glee) to express my feelings on this. I am an avid user of the singular emoji in an email though.

If you were a song, what would you be and why?

‘Never Enough’ from the Greatest Showman perfectly encapsulates my constant drive and aspirations – plus it’s a big dramatic solo. Another option would be ‘I want it all’ from High School Musical 3: Senior Year for the same reasons, though it’s a duet which is a lot more upbeat and energetic, reflecting the antics I get up to with my nearest and dearest.

What is your favourite thing about your career?

I love getting immersed into a bunch of different brands and organisations, especially because it just allows me to learn a lot more about WA and all the things we have on offer – especially having grown up overseas, I continue to be oblivious to a lot of (West) Australian things and mannerisms, but also pronunciations that I get wrong at the worst of times. The other thing I absolutely love is presentations, not only because we get to proudly present our work but also because I am a certified yapper.
