West Australians weigh the risks and benefits of AstraZeneca jab

April 15, 2021

Painted Dog were back in the news this week, running another People’s Voice poll for The West Australian newspaper with 440 West Australians about their confidence in AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccination and the Federal government’s handling of its COVID-19 vaccination program.

The poll came on the back of the Federal Government’s recommendation that under 50s get the Pfizer jab instead of the AstraZeneca jab, due to rare side effects that cause blood clots.

Overall, the poll found that less than half of West Australians were confident that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was safe, though 45% remained moderately or extremely confident. Of those with hesitations, over half were willing to wait 6 months or more to receive it – and for a third, more than a year.

Satisfaction with the Federal government’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout was also polarising, with 37% satisfied but 39% dissatisfied.

The poll was run through our Rewarding Views panel partner and the sample profile was fully representative of the WA community.
