Heading into 2020 with Black Swan State Theatre Company

November 5, 2019

For the past four years Painted Dog has enjoyed a strategic partnership with Black Swan State Theatre Company. This partnership enables us to engage with the Western Australian community to help bring the exhilaration and thrill of live theatre performances to as many people as possible.

The 2020 season was launched with a collection of ‘stories from here’ in the stunning Heath Ledger Theatre earlier this month. Clare Watson, Artistic Director was there and described theatre as “telling stories that are relevant, that reflect who we are, where we are and the times we live in”. The season kicked off with the classic ‘Cloudstreet’ and an exclusive special guest also popped up on stage…

Tim Winton, the acclaimed author of the original ‘Cloudstreet’, gave a moving speech on the power of stories and having the courage to change and break things.

Our Executive Director Kristy, who leads the Black Swan account, was honored to be in the audience and had this to say about the night:

“Each time I go to a performance I am blown away. I love how Clare and her team has the ability to interpret and adapt a play to reflect our communities. And I love how theatre makes you think and challenge your beliefs and perceptions in order to create a stronger and more engaged society.”

We love helping to bring theatre to the people of Western Australia through our partnership with Black Swan State Theatre Company. For anyone who is yet to experience live theatre for themselves, we encourage you to go along to one of their upcoming productions and see for yourself the fantastic talent that we have right here in WA.
