International coffee day!
October 1, 2026
Certainly a day worth celebrating in our books, and although coffee might be a small part of the working day, it inspires some surprisingly strong opinions.
So, for International Coffee Day, we asked the Painted Dog Research team five very serious* questions about coffee, work and the trade-offs of modern office life.
Nearly half of us, 47%, would rather lose our noise-cancelling headphones than give up our morning coffee, while 41% would even sacrifice working from home before saying goodbye to coffee forever.
We also discovered that 44% could be persuaded to pay $1 more for a coffee when a sweet treat was labelled “free”, while 82% agreed that sipping coffee on a morning call is completely acceptable.
And perhaps most importantly, 59% agreed that reheating a forgotten cold coffee is a workplace crime.
It is a light-hearted reminder that even simple questions can reveal very different behaviours, preferences and opinions. This is the first in a new series exploring the stats behind everyday life, with plenty more data-led debates to come.
