April FOOLS

April 1, 2025

The day actually began weeks ago when the SWAT team responsible for our social events sent around a calendar invite for a morning tea on April 1st to celebrate “National Donut Day.” The excitement and anticipation meant that no one questioned it—despite the fact that National Donut Day is actually on June 6th. Of course, this was all a ruse, an elaborate excuse for the SWAT team to have a bit of fun at our expense.

Beyond the morning tea mischief, the day kicked off in classic fashion—with IT issues. Whilst most staff did recover very quickly and locate the source of the issue, others were stumped a little longer – fastest recovery “just a few seconds” all the way up to “around 8 minutes” to work out their equipment had been tampered with.

Meanwhile, the front desk’s bell was masterfully set into a mould of jelly—an impressive level of commitment to execution.

Chris delivered one of his famous card tricks which ended in the shock announcement of his retirement. Turns out this was yet another prank and we have to keep working with him a few more years.

When morning tea finally arrived, the SWAT team made good on their promise of donuts… sort of. Upon opening the boxes, staff were met with an unexpected surprise—fruit had taken their place. Once the actual cinnamon donuts were found, another twist awaited: they had been laced with salt and pepper. Perhaps the most concerning revelation of the day was around 60% of staff didn’t notice the difference.

But the final, and arguably most masterful, trick involved a professionally printed pamphlet promising a free lunch—but only for bald people. A non-SWAT team member had spotted the pamphlet outside a local store days earlier and shared it on our Teams channel. We had a laugh about it and thought it was a marketing stunt but no – just another plant from our own team. The laugh’s on them, though because the store decided to honour this pamphlet and one of our team members got himself a free lunch.

All in all, a truly memorable April Fool’s Day, courtesy of the SWAT team’s dedication to mischief. Enjoy some pictures below:
