More to celebrate at Painted Dog
July 31, 2024
July is a big month of celebration for us, with a jam-packed monthly Birthday & Anniversary (affectionately known as ‘Annibirthary’) lunch. Both Perth and Melbourne offices headed out to celebrate, enjoying a Friday lunch with good friends, yummy food, and an ultra-competitive a fun quiz. This month saw birthdays for Blair, Brynn and Imogen, while July appears a busy hiring time – anniversaries for Ruby and Ben White (1 year), Ben Stacy and Ruben (2), Zach (3), and as you would have read about, Aimee (10!). While he wasn’t here in person, we also celebrated Andrew’s 7-year anniversary in spirit.
Over in Perth, we trotted up the road to Pappagallos for some hearty Italian fare. After our resident Italians did their customary meet and greet at least one different fellow Italian they each knew, we enjoyed a long table lunch. The pappardelle al ragù was the biggest hit, while pizzas of all varieties were also in demand. A few even went for a steak sandwich (at an Italian restaurant!?) – but who are we to judge when they all cited it as being delicious!
Lunch was eaten, bellies were full, and the quiz questions came out. This is no ordinary quiz but, it’s a very serious affair – think Painted Dog’s answer to Medicine’s GAMSAT, or Law’s Bar Exam. Can you guess who fits each of the below criteria from our list of celebrator-ees? (Don’t worry if you can’t – a fair chunk of us couldn’t either!)
- They were the school athletics Champion Boy/Girl 5 years in a row
- Their celebrity crush is Peirce Brosnan (circa 1995 ‘Golden Eye’)
- Their favourite rock drummer is Zach Hill (from his time with ‘Hella’)
In Melbourne, we headed off to the northside favourite Royal Oak Hotel for a sunny winter’s day lunch. We spent the arvo chatting, eating and unearthing the little-known facts about some of our favourite colleagues. Who would have known that we have a published writer among us – a Class Act awardee in fact! Looking at you Blair!
Our Englishman Ben (White) didn’t disappoint by confirming that in fact all poms can’t get enough of the salt and vinegar combo. But little did we know that Ben also grew up with a dog called Molly, a fish called Ron and a peacock called Percy! Can peacocks actually be a pet?!
We’re looking forward to the next one – a few August anniversaries and a few more Painted Dog’s born in the heart of Leo season – and are excited to spend more quality time sharing a meal and getting to know one another.
