Wear it LOUD!
October 21, 2022For over 20 years the 21st of October has been Loud Shirt Day in Australia. “What’s loud shirt day?”, we hear you ask? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like! You wear your biggest, brightest, boldest, and most extravagant shirt for the day and wear it LOUD and PROUD. But it’s so much more than just looking fantastic and creating a sea of colour – it’s about raising funds and awareness.
As the pack grows with the arrival of two Painted Pups over the past year, we found it particularly pertinent to get involved in a day such as today – and as a result, the office was full of even more colour than usual! Loud Shirt Day is all about raising much needed funds and awareness for kids who have experienced hearing loss. While the 0.1% of children born with a hearing loss might not seem like a lot, the impact that it has on someone’s sibling, child, grandchild, or friend, is profound. A hearing loss can impact a child’s communication, learning, socialisation, and alter their lives in an unexpected way.
The funds raised for Loud Shirt Day since its inception have helped The Shepherd Centre, a world leader in early intervention Listening and Spoken Language therapy, to help assist more than 2,500 children who are deaf or hearing impaired to reach their full potential. The Centre currently supports over 700 families all over Australia with telehealth for rural and regional areas and 7 in-person centres in the eastern states, while its global platform supports health professionals working with children with hearing loss all over the world.
Today is not only the perfect excuse to wear our brightest clothes LOUD and PROUD, but to educate ourselves and others as well as raise money and awareness to help give the gift of sound and speech to deaf and hearing impaired children.
We look forward to even more people getting LOUD next year!
