Ask the question

September 8, 2022

Each year on the 8th of September, we’re reminded to look out for each other, think about the people around us, and start a conversation for RUOK day. Late last year, The Australian Bureau of Statistics conducted a National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing to understand the mental health, use of services, and social / economic circumstances of Australians.

Below are some interesting stats from the study:

15% of Australians experienced high or very high levels of psychological distress

3.4 million Australians saw a health professional for their mental health

612,000 Australians accessed other services for their mental health via phone or digital technologies

There were some great wellbeing stats too, where Australians took action to help manage their mental health:

37% increased their level of exercise

29% Practiced thinking positively

28% Did more of what they enjoy

More information about the study can be found on the ABS website
