Staff Spotto: Stricko!
November 13, 2020Fridays are Staff Spotlight days! We throw the spotlight onto one of our Painted Dogs and they answer the questions you’ve always wanted to know! This week’s spotlight falls on James (Strickland aka Stricko); we gave him a few fun questions to answer so take a read below to get to know him a little better!
It should also be mentioned that the request for this information was sent to James on the 20th of April – something other staff members have delighted in reminding him. As a valuable member of the marketing team, his non-completion of this request began a mutiny when others were requested to complete it. I am sure he would like to tell you that I have been sitting on his response since late October. But here it is. In full. In all its glory. Enjoy.
If someone was playing you in a movie, who would you cast and why?
I think I’d have to say Chris Evans for this one (the guy who plays Captain America in the Avengers movies), purely because apparently I look like him. I know, I don’t see it either (Google him if you don’t know who I’m talking about), but no less than 10 people, all unrelated and at separate times, have told me I look like him, so I couldn’t really answer any other way. I’m not mad about it though, he’s a good looking cat…
You’re at a karaoke bar, what song do you rock out?
Oh boy, Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses for sure! I sang this song at a karaoke bar in Osaka, Japan years ago and I’ll never forget it. I butchered it, but it got everyone up and singing along, even the Japanese people who didn’t know the words in English. One of the Japanese guys who sang with me would replace any words he didn’t know in English with a random sound. I’m sure you had to be there, but trust me it was great. None of us spoke each other’s language, but it didn’t matter – karaoke is the universal language.
How would we celebrate if there was a “St. YOU” day?
Rude to assume it would just be one day. Settimana di San Giacomo (or Saint James Week) would be a most regal of weeks; a week of merriment and frivolity. I’ve thought about this a lot…
Naturally, it would be observed by everyone. Think Christmas, but universally celebrated. There would be several mandated forms of celebration, most of which relate to food and drink, including pizza eating and tequila tasting (trust me, it’s delicious if you get a good one!). Bunnings would provide a free sausage sizzle to all customers on entry and upon exit. Come sunset each night of the week, it would be tradition for the children to don a mask of St James and play in the streets. The sound of children’s laughter will ring out across the land.
Five words your friends would use to describe you?
I asked this question of a couple of my friends and let’s just say their responses were unflattering. Friends can be so mean… So I asked my Wife (I recently got married, still extremely weird to say ‘Wife’!), and her responses were far more what I wanted to hear. She went with genuine, loyal, kind, selfless and driven. She then provided a sixth, but I allowed it because I agreed with it: funny.
