FIFA!

June 12, 2026

It’s no secret we pride ourselves on staying abreast of current affairs to help contextualise our research. And with the FIFA World Cup kicking off, we couldn’t resist turning the lens on ourselves. We ran a quick internal survey to find out how our team will be following the tournament, and the results were exactly what you’d expect from a group of naturally curious (and quietly competitive) researchers.

While only a portion of the office would describe themselves as die-hard football fans, that hasn’t stopped World Cup fever from making its way through the team. Our office sweepstakes have certainly helped. Many of us have found ourselves suddenly invested in the fortunes of countries we’d never usually follow, passionately defending teams we’d struggled to locate on a map just a few weeks earlier. It’s amazing how quickly allegiance forms when a little friendly competition is involved.

What we’ve discovered is that there are plenty of different ways to experience the World Cup. Some of us will be glued to live matches, others will be checking the highlights over breakfast, and a few will keep an eye on the scores while pretending not to care at all. But whether you’re analysing tactics, cheering on your sweepstakes team, or simply enjoying the atmosphere that comes with a global event, the tournament has a way of drawing people in.

And perhaps that’s the real takeaway. The World Cup isn’t just about football; it’s about shared moments, spirited debates around the office, and finding unexpected connections through a common experience. So, from one competitive bunch to another, we’d love to know: how will you be following the World Cup?
