Personal Wellbeing at Painted Dog
October 7, 2022
As an important an ongoing priority at Painted Dog, the pack continues to promote the discussion and de-stigmatisation of mental health. On Wednesday this week, we all got together for a collaborative session on matters of personal wellbeing. Our Social and Wellbeing team prepared a presentation with some key stats on mental health, as well as some of the warning signs that someone might be experiencing difficulties. Then we had an open discussion about the strategies that we each use to help us stay our happiest selves, as well as ways to help others when in need. Some of the pack’s recommendations include:
- Write a list – get it down on paper so it’s not in your head, and then you can see what’s left to do so you can plan your day/week accordingly (plus there’s nothing better than crossing things off a list!)
- Speak up and share the workload with others – there’s always someone that can help
- Make yourself available to other team members and check in if you notice someone acting unlike themselves
- Go for a walk or do some exercise, either at lunch or before/after work. Give yourself some fresh air and a mental break – it helps you reset and tackle the next thing you need to do
- Recognise your capabilities and your limitations, accept them and try not to push yourself beyond them if it will be detrimental to your health and wellbeing
- Seek professional help if needed – they are the experts to help you deal with the things you can’t (and shouldn’t) have to deal with on your own
Painted Dog will always continue to prioritise mental health, both for our own staff and the broader community. It’s this culture and these types of initiatives which make our team such a supportive and safe network – and makes our office a genuinely enjoyable place to get to work every day!
