International Cat Day…whaaaat
August 8, 2025
Today, the 8th of August is International Cat Day so we’re allowing the Staff Cats to take the spotlight on the blog (something we’ve done many times for the dogs, so I guess today they get their turn). And for the first time ever, Painted Dog pet ownership swings in favour of Felines and the Dog owners are the minority. The passion behind the ownership is fierce, with the die-hard cat fans declaring love at every turn for their Loungeroom Lions, despite how ….frustrating they seem to live with (coming from a dog-owner, sorry). We’ve had tales of 3am wake-ups, blatant counter surfing, furniture destruction, house escapism, trying to run teams calls, and possibly every cat has been conditioned in some way to a human behaviour (mostly involving the fridge).
The biggest benefits of feline ownership other than companionship involve stress reduction and emotional support, health benefits (cat owners have been shown to have a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke), they’re generally quiet, they make you laugh, they teach empathy and responsibility and they love you (even if it’s on their terms).
Not all the Cats made it to the blog, but please enjoy the submissions below:
Ocean – master of Brynn
Described as ‘an absolute menace’, this ridiculously handsome pest can’t be alone for more than 5 seconds and insists Brynn stand with him while he eats. He also attempts to crash every online meeting possible and loves to hog the camera – we believe most of Brynn’s clients have met Ocean. He improves Brynn’s existence by being incredibly soft and cuddly and also lifting the general aesthetic. Nice one, Ocean… you have Brynn wrapped around your excessively beautiful feet (and by the looks of that expression, you know it!).

Next up we have Crunchie & Picnic who own Vienna
This crazy cat insists on sharing her life with not one but two feline companions. A seasoned pro raised by cats, she’s no stranger to their idiosyncrasies and possibly speaks the most favourably about how much she loves them and how pleasurable they are to live with (brainwashed if you ask me). Crunchie the tabby is an adorable kleptomaniac whilst Picnic the tuxedo can do no wrong and seems to have no undesirable traits (a blind eye to the first born it would seem). Crunchie redeems himself by being super cuddly and Picnic the Favourite is a joy every day for all.

Merlin – (not so) master of Amelia
This was a hilarious submission and the impression that this pet is not the favourite in the household was more than evident. When asked for a fun fact, the answer was, ‘how exciting can cats really be.. I don’t think I can think of anything that isn’t a standard cat behaviour,’ – said like a true Dog owner, Amelia! Before you ask, Amelia does own Dogs. Maybe that explains this attitude! Merlin did not seem to have any redeeming qualities, but is a renowned Dog fighter (at any possible chance!) and was declared as ‘expensive’. You do you, Merlin.

Kiki – master of Noah
This adorable tabby has been elusively shielded from participating in this blog other than the provided photo below. Noah, a lover of sharing personal details, would like to say that her name is Kiki – she is a special tabby – she is from Edgewater. Thanks Noah! Sandra, we did our best.

Luna – master of Catherine
This might be the most perfect face I’ve ever seen. Look at the feet. I would deny you nothing, you beautiful creature. Luna (affectionately called Kitty) is declared a rascal most of the time, recently also referred to as being “a bit neurotic” but she’s honestly the best most entertaining and cuddly cat Catherine could ever wish for. The most affectionate words we’ve had so far! Go, Luna!

Yikes – (not so) master of Jill
Gauging the affection of this submission was difficult, but with a face like this, does it matter? Coined “Yikes”, the marketing for this Cat seems to say it all. Apparently, she is very cute when flowers or new plants are brought home – she screams the house down! Otherwise she is generally a screaming demon… sort of what you would expect from a black cat. Not going to lie, there are definitely similarities with our other black cat submission.

Scruffy – Master of Bill
Scruffy was rebelliously submitted for the Cat blog and as Greyhounds are considered the Cats of the Dog world, she made it through. It was never said the Dog owners couldn’t participate! A lot of self control went into not putting her right at the top. Unlike the rest of the blog submissions, Scruffy is a true delight to live with and Bill had not a single negative word to say about her. Incredibly soft and friendly, she adds a lot to daily life. Looks like she’s fashionable, too.

That’s a wrap on the Cats of Painted Dog – we hope you enjoyed hearing more about the pets. Cats are truly engaging creatures – independant, clean, funny, beautiful, quiet – what’s not to love? Happy International Cat Day!
