Masterpieces in Progress: Our First Ever Paint & Sip

July 22, 2025

Recently, the team swapped spreadsheets for paint palettes and traded business meetings for splashes of colour during our first ever Paint and Sip office event. A creative experiment of sorts, complete with good snacks and enjoyable music – and surprisingly, no one managed to paint any work surfaces by accident.

The event kicked off with everyone working diligently on their own canvases. There was a lot of careful, precision painting—think tiny brushes, serious faces, and the kind of concentration usually reserved for brain surgery. It was slow going, but spirits were high (even if the paint count wasn’t). The event wrapped up a few hours later, and most people had only painted using one colour… not exactly the progress we were expecting. So, it was decided that Paint & Sip would continue every few weeks on a Friday evening until the canvases were completed.

In session two, tactics took a turn. While there were still fresh canvases to choose from, newcomers to the event abandoned the idea of individual masterpieces, and the group united to paint a single shared canvas.

Possibly smarter thinking than the first group—however, upon inspection the next workday, it was clear this approach was all about teamwork over technique. It was certainly faster and more rewarding for painters (though definitely more chaotic), and the canvas was a whopping 80% finished. The show of colour and completed sections spoke for themselves when everyone surveyed it in total shock… even if a few of the perfectionists from week one quietly mourned the death of detail.

In the end, it wasn’t about producing gallery-ready work (we’re sure you’ll agree—you have eyes). It was about switching gears, getting a bit messy, and proving (once again) that great things happen when we put our heads—and brushes—together. And this canvas? It’s surely something our mums would all be proud of. Possibly not kindy teachers, though.
